What is the Inciting Incident?

The day that something changes
Sets your character on whatever path they're going to be on for the rest of the book
Where we get our stakes and motivations for our character and where something is suddenly on the line for them

Tips for Writing Inciting Incidents

Start as close to the action as possible, while still giving sufficient background for it to matter.
Should be personal and tell us something unique about your characters
Use it as an opportunity to show how this book is going to be different
